  1. The HCSO’s Jail Chaplaincy & Reentry Services creates an atmosphere of change within the Harris County Jail system by targeting specific core issues and meeting the real needs of the inmates within our care. Through community outreach, faith-based services, career development, and a strong reentry model, we are contributing our greatest gift to society by preparing those for release to the community!

Research shows recidivism rates are currently 80%, however, we have found that this number drops to 12% when inmates participate in support services before returning to society.

  3. Special Events:
Reaching out and sharing hope with those who may feel hopeless is the essence of what we do. Many faiths come together to bring a message of hope, restoration, and positive change.

  5. Support Services & Mentoring:
Statistics tell us that violence, prostitution, drug addiction, and parents incarcerated while their children are in child protective custody are at epidemic proportions. Support Services matches inmates with appropriate community providers who have experience and education in these specific areas.

You can make a difference in the life of those incarcerated at the jail through one-on-one interaction and recovery programs. Bonds of trust are developed when taking on the challenge of mentoring someone through their period of incarceration. Become a mentor today!

  7. Reentry:
By becoming a part of our Reentry Team you will be changing history. Our team sees more than 150 inmates a week and helps them prepare for their release by offering community referrals, obtaining necessities such as ID cards, medical appointments, family reunification planning, substance abuse treatment placement and supportive housing.
