Youth Leadership Council

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez’s Youth Leadership Council is a program designed to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders in our community. High school students interested in joining the Council must reside in Harris County and be in good academic standing at their school. To apply, students will submit an application and essay.

The Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Council will meet monthly with Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and key agency leaders to engage in meaningful discussions on important topics facing our community.

These discussions will cover a range of critical issues, such as:

• Bullying
• Teen Dating Violence
• Suicide Prevention
• Human Trafficking
• Drug and Alcohol Awareness
• Gang Prevention
• Traffic Safety

Through these discussions, Council members will gain a deeper understanding of community issues, engage in critical thinking, and develop solutions and recommendations.

Members of the Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Council will serve as ambassadors for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, sharing their insights and recommendations with their campus peers. The HCSO will partner with school districts, law enforcement agencies, and local non-profits to amplify the voices of the Council and implement impactful community-driven solutions.

Council members will also be asked to participate in volunteer activities at Harris County Sheriff’s Office-sponsored events, further fostering a sense of civic responsibility and community engagement.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez’s vision is to motivate young people to achieve academic excellence and become active and engaged residents. By cultivating a culture of leadership and community service, we aim to empower the next generation to make a positive impact on Harris County.
